To keep your nails looking stunning you should commit to getting regular nail fills by your technician. If you don’t keep up with those fills, then your acrylic nails will grow out, which makes them much easier to damage. You should get your nails filled at least once a fortnight, if not more often. If your nails grow out then the technician will have to break them off, and refit them from scratch. Not only will this cost more, it’s not particularly good for your nails in the long run either.
Once you’ve got your nails fitted, you can polish them and treat them just like normal nails. Look for a high quality nail polish that will really bring out the look of the nails. Make a point of touching up your nails in between treatments. Re-apply the top coat of your nail varnish a week after each fill, so that your manicure looks as clean and polished as possible. Don’t forget to moisturize your hands either; this will help to keep your cuticles supple and will stop your nails from drying out too quickly.
Acrylics are not real nails. They are more fragile and they will chip and get damaged if you do anything rough while you have them on. It’s not a good idea to get them fitted if you’re going to be doing anything physical or working with heavy objects. You can get them removed if necessary, but removing and re-fitting them is hardly ideal as a way of taking care of your hands.
The best thing to do is to get them fitted for big nights out, or when you’re going away on holiday, then have them removed and let your natural nails breath and heal while you’re at home, working and subjecting your hands to abuse. Then, when you’re ready to put the acrylics on again they’ll bond better and stay on for longer.
